HORSEPUPPY Pottery by Jessica

ABOUT THE ARTIST AND THE NAME:

There are few things that can compete with the magical moment I feel when I finish a painting or a nicely turned pot. There is little that can compare to the the anticipation and joy that I feel when I open the kiln lid and discover that some crazy glaze experiment was a success.

I have a professional "career," but am an artist by nature. The need to make and try new things is in my blood.

Why have I decided to sell my artwork using the name HORSEPUPPY ™ ?  The short answer is that "horsepuppy" is a pet name for my large breed ISSR Shiloh Shepherd™ dog, Udo.

The longer answer is below:

I have had many companion animals over the years, yet I find myself especially inspired by Udo’s drive, creativity, and ability to live in the moment and be happy no matter how crappy the moment before was. I am equally inspired by his unfailing insistence that I follow right along with him and love life, every day, every moment, for what it is.

This dog loves LIVING, the way I love making art. I find that a life lesson worth taking note of, and honoring.

Hanging with my horsepuppy gives me the same cathartic feeling I get when making art. Every success, every mistake, every MOMENT is a learning experience -- a joy and a wonder.

Udo, my horsepuppy, is an inspiration to me every day. I cannot think of a better namesake to adorn my artwork.

The HORSEPUPPY ™  logo is a paw print inside a horseshoe.

ABOUT THE POTTERY:

All HORSEPUPPY pottery is high fire (^5 or above) stoneware, earthenware, or porcelain. It is food, dishwasher, and microwave safe unless otherwise specified. Most of the bowls, platters, and larger items (except those made of porcelain) are oven safe and can be used as baking or serving dishes.

HORSEPUPPY pottery is both decorative and functional. I do not use molds -- all of my items are wheel-thrown and/or hand-made. I experiment with different clay, glazes, shapes, and design techniques. My items vary in clay and glaze material, size, shape, and design.
